Trojans Topple Bearcats, 5-4

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Caleb Owen singled and scored on a two-out single by Jonathan Pitts to give Anderson College a 5-4 victory over Lander Wednesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Lander jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Jonathan Myers and David Walton both walked and came around to score. Myers scored on sacrifice fly by Ryan Roeder, and Walton scored on single by Radley Raven. Anderson took a 3-2 lead in the home half of the first. After Owen tripled and scored on ground out, Jonathan Pitts singled and scored on double by Don Ballard. Ballard then scored the third run of the inning on a double by Cody Nye. The Bearcats tied the game at 3 with a single run in the third. James Compo walked and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Chris Marks. The Trojans took a 4-3 lead in the fifth when Donavon Schmidt scored on a two-out single by Nye. Lander tied the game at 4 in the top of the sixth. With two outs, David Walton singled and scored on a double by Ryan Brisby. Aaron Griffith pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the victory for Anderson. Griffith allowed two runs on five hits. Will Cheatham pitched the ninth inning to earn his first save. Anderson finished the game with 12 hits, while Lander managed just six hits. Owen and Pitts both had three hits in five trips for Anderson. Nye was 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Trojans. Roeder, who had two hits in four trips, was the lone Lander player with multiple hits. Anderson improves to 14-18 overall, while Lander falls to 20-10.
