Owls Spoil Anderson's Senior Night

ANDERSON, S.C. - Jay Morrow hit two home runs, including one that tied the game in the ninth inning, and drove in three runs to lead Kennesaw State to an 8-7 victory over Anderson College Tuesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Kennesaw State, 27-18 overall, jumped out to a 3-0 lead, fell behind 5-3 through six innings then rallied to take the victory and spoil Anderson's Senior Night. The loss ends Anderson's season at 20-33. The Trojans finished ninth in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference standings and failed to qualify for this weekend's tournament at Wilson, N.C. Morrow, a freshman from Roswell, Ga., and the No. 9 hitter in the Owl lineup, hit a solo shot in the second to give Kennesaw a 2-0 lead. A two-out walk to Andy Hudson and a double by Morrow increased the Owl lead to 3-0 in the fourth. An RBI single by Cody Nye got Anderson on the board in the bottom of the fourth, and the Trojans added two in the fifth and two in the sixth for a 5-3 lead. Josh Harrison had a run-scoring single in the fifth and Jeremy McCauley had an RBI double in the sixth. The Owls got one run back in the seventh when Jeremy Brotherton reached on an error, advanced to second on a throwing error by Anderson catcher Bryan Cato and scored on a double play. With one out in the ninth, Morrow hit another shot over the left center field fence to tie the game at 5. After Anderson went quietly in the ninth, Kennesaw scratched out two runs using a walk, a throwing error by pitcher Nat McCarty on a sacrifice bunt, and RBI singles by Adrian Colton and Hudson. Thanks to two errors, the Trojans got two runs back in the bottom of the 10th inning, but they could get no closer. Anderson starter Aaron Griffith deserved a better fate. He scattered nine hits in seven innings and left with a 5-4 lead. Senior Brett Youngblood pitched a perfect eighth, but senior Nat McCarty allowed four runs and three hits in 1 1/3 innings to get tagged with the loss. Both teams finished the game with 13 hits.
