Carson-Newman Strikes Early To Beat Anderson, 11-6

ANDERSON, S.C. - Carson-Newman struck for 10 runs in the first two innings and then coasted to an 11-6 victory over Anderson College in a non-conference game Monday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The Eagles, 24-20 overall, collected 18 hits, seven for extra bases against five Anderson pitchers. Langdon Potts and Bryce Thomas led the Eagles with three hits apiece. Brian Chapman had three RBI, while T.J. Graves and Brian Fowler had two RBI apiece for Carson-Newman. The loss drops Anderson to 19-28. The Eagles, who had 13 of their hits in the first two innings, jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. The highlights of the first-inning uprising were a three-run homer by Chapman, a two-run double by Kyle Beall, and an RBI double by Jonathan Mary. Anderson starter Nate Miller did not make it out of the first. Miller recorded just two outs and allowed seven hits and six runs before being lifted. When Carson-Newman's first inning finally ended, the Eagles had sent 11 batters to the plate and collected eight hits, four for extra bases. Carson-Newman added four more runs in the second to increase its lead to 10-0. Graves led off the inning with a solo homer to left center. A two-run single by Fowler and an RBI single by Potts brought home the final three runs of the inning. Anderson got on the board in the third when F.A. Vildosola hit a three-run homer over the right field fence to cut the Eagle lead to 10-3. Trailing 10-3, the Trojans got three runs closer in the fourth on a three-run homer to left center by Seth Thompson. From that point, the game calmed down. In the final five innings, Anderson had just four hits and Carson-Newman had just three hits. Carson-Newman starting pitcher Mike Ealey allowed all six Anderson runs and 10 hits before being replaced by Chris Gillies in the seventh. Gillies allowed just two hits in the final three innings.
