Braves Take Two From Anderson

PEMBROKE, N.C. -- Anderson College opened its 2005 season by losing a doubleheader to North Carolina Pembroke Saturday. In the first game, Cole Franks and Tripp Lockhart both provided RBI singles during a three-run fourth inning to lead the Braves to a 7-3 victory. Donavon Schmidt hit a solo home run for Anderson in the third, and Clint Neville and Cody Nye had three hits apiece for the Trojans. Pembroke's Mike Mattox pitched five innings to pick up the victory for the Braves. In the second game, which was seven innings, Pembroke's James Luper limited the Trojans to one run and three hits to lead the Braves to a 6-1 victory. Luper, who went the distance, struck out three and walked two. Pembroke jumped on Anderson starter Nat McCarty for four runs in the first inning. Jason Morales had an RBI double and Aaron Perkins had an RBI single in the inning. The third game of the series will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.
