Fleet Completes Sweep With Walk-Off Grand Slam

DUE WEST, S.C. -- Erskine College scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to come back from a three-run deficit and defeat Anderson College 15-12 Saturday afternoon and complete a three-game sweep of the Trojans. Anderson scored three runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning to take a 10-9 lead. The Trojans added two more runs in the top of the ninth on a two-run homer by Kyle Lewis. The Fleet cut the AC lead to two in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Casey Smith, which brought home Shelton Cisson. After a single by Ben Blumenthal, Smith would score when Juan Saenz reached on an error by the shortstop. The runners would move up to second and third with no outs. The Trojans then intentionally walked Robbie Knapp, who hit a home run earlier in the game, to load the bases for Brent Mahaffey. After taking the first pitch for a ball, Mahaffey connected with a fastball sending it over the right field fence for a walk-off grand slam. Jake Williams pitched two innings of relief to pick up the win. Williams allowed two runs and struck out three. Blumenthal led the Fleet, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. For the Trojans, Lewis finished the game 4-for-4 with the home run, two doubles and five RBI. Will Cheatham took the loss for Anderson, allowing four runs in the ninth inning. Erskine improves to 28-10 overall and 12-6 in the CVAC, while Anderson falls to 14-21 and 4-10. Anderson College Baseball Season Statistics
