Solo Homers Lead Lander Past Anderson, 5-3

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- David Walton and Jonathan Myers each smacked solo home runs Thursday night as the Lander baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak and defeated Anderson College 5-3 in a non-conference game at Legion Field. Lander improves to 22-17 overall, while Anderson drops to 17-26. Justin Altman (1-1) picked up the victory for the Bearcats, striking out four, walking two and allowing two earned runs on eight hits in 7.2 innings pitched. Anderson's Nate Miller (0-4) took the loss, striking out one, walking three and allowing three earned runs on six hits in five innings pitched. Walton, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, got the Bearcats going in the first inning with his home run. Myers, who went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, recorded his homer in the seventh inning. For Lander, Chris Marks went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI and Adam Strongman went 2-for-3 with one run scored. AC's Jonathan Pitts led the Trojans by going 2-for-4 with one double and one run scored. Cody Nye went 2-for-3, Jeremy McCauley went 2-for-4 with one run scored and Jessie Whiteside went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Anderson tied the score at 1-1 in the third when Jeremy McCauley went home on a bases-loaded fielder's choice. The Bearcats took the lead for good in the third when Jeremy Ryals crossed the plate on a Walton RBI single then stretched the margin to 3-1 when Strongman went home from first base on Chris Marks' double to right center. Myers gave Lander a 4-1 lead in the fifth when he went home from second on an error by McCauley. Anderson cut the margin to 5-2 in the eighth inning when F.A. Vildosola singled in Pitts. The Trojans made it 5-3 in the ninth when Clint Neville went home from third on Jessie Whiteside's RBI single. Anderson College Baseball Season Statistics
