Trojans Pick Up Two Wins on the Road with Doubleheader Sweep at Coker

Hartsville, S.C. -Anderson University Softball picked up two wins, defeating South Atlantic Conference opponent Coker, 10-0 (5 innings) and, 7-6, on Saturday afternoon at Coker Field. Anderson improves to 26-8 overall and 14-6 in SAC action, while the Cobras slide to 14-14 overall and 9-11 in conference play.

"Nice to get a sweep, especially how both games played out, said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "We run rule the first game with 10 runs and the second one being a nail bitter, winning by one, with Laken coming in to strike out the side in the bottom of the 7th with tying run on 3rd. Good day!"

Game 1 Summary
Anderson 10           Coker 0

Anderson used seven hits and five Coker miscues to score 10 runs the five inning shutout. The Black and Gold scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second inning and another four spot in the fourth.

Senior Sarah Middlton (6-2) pitched a three-hit, seven strikeout game. Middleton picked up her sixth win of the season.

KEY TROJANS

-Kayson Boated batted 3-for-4 with two doubles and scoring three times for the Trojans.
-Matti Cantrell went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
-Middleton went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
-Hannah Whitaker batted 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

Game 2 Summary
Anderson 7       Coker 6

Game two saw a combined eight errors ( 4 apiece), with Anderson outhitting the Cobras 13 to 8.

Anderson scored four runs in the first inning, using three errors and four hits. Coker cut the lead in half, after taking their turn at the plate in the first.

Both teams scored a single run in the second inning, with Anderson scoring two more over the next four innings to give the Black and Gold a, 7-3, lead.

The Cobras inched closer with a run in the sixth inning and shutting out AU in the top half of the seventh. A single, an error and a double resulted in two Cobra runs, 7-6, senior pitcher Harlie Duncan being lifted from the game in favor of freshman Laken Maxwell. Maxwell got the first batter to ground out to second, while striking out the remaining two Coker batters for her first career save.

Duncan (12-2) won her twelfth win of the season.

KEY TROJANS

-Gracie Williams went 2-for-2 with a double and run scored.
-Cantrell batted 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
-Middleton and Morgan Charter both went 2-for-4.
-Boatner (11) and Mattie Hamilton (3) each hit a home run.

UP NEXT

Anderson will travel to SAC opponent Tusculum on Wednesday. First-Pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 pm.
