Charter’s Three-Run Blast Preserves Sweep Over Limestone

Gaffney, S.C. - Anderson University Softball exploded for 14 runs in game one to defeat the Saints, 14-4, and then benefited from junior Morgan Charter's three-run blast in the seventh inning to win the nightcap, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Babe Ruth Field. The Trojans move to 20-4 overall and 8-2 in SAC play, while the Saints drop to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in conference action.

"I'm so proud for our team today, said head softball coach Tommy Hewitt. "They all brought their full package, hitting, pitching and great defense."

"For the first time this season, we hit when the opportunity presented itself and made big plays on defense and pitching was spot on," said Hewitt.

"So proud!," added Hewitt.

Game 1 Summary
Anderson 14           Limestone 4

Anderson exploded for six runs in the third inning, scoring runs in each of the remaining innings to defeat the Saints, 14-4.

Senior Sarah Middleton (3-1) scattered nine hits, while striking out five batters.

KEY TROJANS


-Matti Cantrell batted 3-for-3 with a double and five RBI.
-Kayson Boatner went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
-Kennedy Burton batted 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and one run scored.
-Hannah Whitaker went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

KEY TROJANS

The Black and Gold scored a solo run in the top of the fifth inning, before the Saints put two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. Anderson scored four runs in the seventh inning to set the final score, 5-2,

After tying the game at two apiece, Charter stepped to the plate and drove a pitch over right center to put the Trojans ahead. Senior Harlie Duncan (9-1) pitched six innings, giving up six hits and striking out five. Freshman Laken Maxwell was called in to pitch the final inning, earning her first career save.

-Charter was 3-for-4 with a three-run home run.
-Boatner went 3-for-4
-Mattie Hamilton batted 2-for-4
-Jessica Neadow went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

 UP NEXT

Anderson returns home to host SAC opponent Wingate on Saturday. First-Pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
