Anderson Rallies To Beat Southern Wesleyan

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out a 15-12 victory over Southern Wesleyan in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Anderson, 18-27 overall, jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two innings, but Southern Wesleyan struck for six runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to take a 10-9 lead. The Warriors, 20-28, hit three home runs in the game -- back-to-back homers by John Sciullo and Kevin Brown in the third and Michael Land in the fourth. The homers by Sciullo and Land both were two-run shots. Anderson tied the game at 10 in fifth on an RBI double by Jonathan Pitts and took a 12-10 lead in the sixth on a two-run homer by Clint Neville. It was Neville's first home run of the season. In the top of the eighth, the Warriors used an error, a single by Land, a sacrifice, a wild pitch, and another error to score two runs and tie the game at 12. With one out in the Anderson eighth, singles by Jessie Whiteside and Blair Carson, two wild pitches, a dropped fly ball, and an RBI single by Tony Graham gave Anderson a 15-12 lead. Brandon Johnson entered in the ninth for Anderson and retired three of the four batters to faced to save it for Brandon Sheriff. Johnson now has six saves this season. Anderson was led by Whiteside, who was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and Pitts, who was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Dustin Smith was 4-for-4 with two RBI and Land was 3-for-5 with two RBI for Southern Wesleyan. Anderson travels to North Georgia Wednesday afternoon. 2006 Anderson University Baseball Statistics
