Anderson Loses A Wild One To SWU

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Kellen Kmiecik had two hits and scored four runs, including the game winner in the top of the ninth inning, to lead Southern Wesleyan to a 12-11 victory over Anderson University in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon at a soggy Anderson Memorial Stadium. Southern Wesleyan, 9-12 overall, scored three runs in the second and three runs in the third to take a 6-2 lead. Tyler Brady had a two-run triple in the second and Kevin Brown had a two-run double in the third for the Warriors. But Anderson answered with a six-run third to take an 8-6 lead. After three walks loaded the bases, Clint Neville brought all three runners home with a double down the left field line. Don Ballard also had a run-scoring single in the inning. Neville and Tony Graham, who hit the first pitch in the home half of the first over the left field fence, finished the game with three RBI apiece for the Trojans. After two scoreless innings, the Warriors scored five times in the sixth to seize an 11-8 lead. Kmiecik capped the scoring in the inning with a two-run homer to left. Anderson scored three times in the bottom of the eight to tie the game at 11. Graham provided a two-run double and then Kyle Lewis brought Graham home with a double to tie the game. After Lewis moved to third on a ground out, Neville hit a bullet down the third base line that was speared by Warrior third baseman John Sciullo, who stepped on third for an unassisted double play to end the inning. Kmiecik opened the Warrior ninth by getting hit by a pitch. He moved to second on a sacrifice, to third on a ground out, and then scored when Brandon Johnson, the fifth Anderson pitcher of the game, rushed to cover first base and dropped a toss from second baseman B.J. Smith. Dustin Smith, who started the game at second base, became the seventh Warrior pitcher of the game in the eighth. He surrendered two doubles and the tying run in the eighth, but he pitched a perfect ninth to pick up the victory. Five of Southern Wesleyan's 10 hits were for extra bases. Anderson finished the game with nine hits, six for extra bases. The loss drops Anderson to 5-11. Anderson's next action is Friday at 2:30 p.m. when CVAC foe Erskine comes to Anderson Memorial Stadium. 2006 Anderson University Baseball Statistics
