Dow Leaves Anderson For IUP

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University head women's basketball coach Jeff Dow resigned Wednesday to accept the head coach position at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. "I am saddened that Jeff will be leaving Anderson University, but tremendously happy for him to have this new opportunity," said Anderson athletic director Nancy Simpson. "Jeff has brought a wealth of success to our women's basketball program, and I will always be grateful to him for that." Dow, a native of Medford, Oregon, was 79-17 in three seasons at Anderson. In those three seasons, the Lady Trojans were 52-8 in Conference Carolinas and 39-2 at home. "This was a difficult decision to leave Anderson University," Dow said. "I was fortunate to have had a very supportive upper administration led by President (Evans) Whitaker and two outstanding athletic directors, and friends, in Bobby Beville and Nancy Simpson. But without question the hardest part about severing ties with Anderson will be that I will no longer have the opportunity to coach this group of players and be around them on a daily basis. "For three years the players did everything that was asked of them and helped establish the Anderson program as one of the elite programs in all of Division II. I will always be eternally grateful for the contributions each of them made along with my assistant Devon Rhoads during my tenure here and I wish them all continued success in the future." During his three years in Anderson, he coached three All-America players - LaShonda Chiles, Deidra Langston, and Nikki Anthony - and two league Players of the Year --Langston and Anthony. In his first season at Anderson in 2005-06, the Lady Trojans were 27-5 overall, won the conference regular-season and tournament titles, and led Division II in scoring at 83.5 points per game. In 2006-07, the Lady Trojans were 28-4 and finished third in the conference standings. They reached the conference tournament championship game to earn an NCAA bid. In his final season at Anderson, Dow led the Lady Trojans to a 28-4 record, the regular-season conference title, and a third straight trip to the NCAA tournament. In the final 2007-08 national statistics, the Lady Trojans were sixth in scoring margin (+18.4) and ninth in scoring defense (54.9). Ironically, Dow's third and final NCAA regional appearance as Anderson's head coach was at IUP. The Lady Trojans defeated Fairmont State in the first round before falling to eventual Elite Eight participant California (Pa.) in the second round. After leading the Lady Trojans to a 19-1 record in Conference Carolinas in his final season at AU, Dow was named the league's Coach of the Year. In his final season, Anderson was ranked No. 12 in the USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, one of its highest rankings ever in the national poll. The Lady Trojans were No. 19 in the final poll. Dow's career record as a head coach at the Division I and Division II level is 113-66.
