Lady Trojans Clinch Regular-Season Title

DUE WEST, S.C. -- No. 15 Anderson University placed five players in double figures on its way to a dominating 79-55 victory over Erskine in a Conference Carolinas game Wednesday night. Anderson, 23-2 overall and 17-1 in the conference, won its 16th straight game and clinched its third regular-season title in the last four years. "A big point of emphasis was our pressure," said Anderson head coach Jeff Dow. "We came out in our zone pressure and got after it pretty good. Erskine really struggled to get into a flow." Anderson was led by Latrice Thomas with 16 points, Nikki Anthony and Keana Boyd with 15 points apiece, Mikala Fogle-Wilson with 12 points, and Alexa Neal with 11 points. Anthony also had a game-high 11 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season. Thomas, a senior from Graniteville, S.C., was 8-for-8 from the line and also had eight rebounds and five assists. Fogle-Wilson, a senior from Columbia, S.C., needs just five points to reach 1,000 for her career. "We take a lot of pride in having a balanced team," Dow said. "I still feel like our best basketball is ahead of us." Anderson, ranked No. 4 in this week's East Region poll, never trailed. The Lady Trojans' lead reached double digits for the first time -- 21-10 -- with 12:14 left in the first half. Anderson's largest lead of the first half was 21 -- 33-12 -- with 7:27 left. Anderson led 43-25 at the half. Anderson's largest lead of the second half was 35 -- 76-41 -- with 7:04 to play. Anderson shot 39 percent while limiting Erskine to 31 percent. Anderson was 10-for-32 from behind the arc. Led by Anthony, Anderson dominated the boards, 49-39. Anderson scored 17 points off 18 Erskine turnovers. The loss drops Erskine to 4-20, 3-14.
