Anthony, Boyd Named To All-Conference First Team

THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Nikki Anthony of Anderson University has been named Player of the Year in Conference Carolinas by the league's head coaches, the league office announced Friday morning. Anthony also was named to the All-Conference Carolinas first team. Joining her on the first team are Keana Boyd of Anderson, Lakeisha Monroe of Mount Olive, Marie Marquez of Belmont Abbey, and Esty Flores of Barton. Anthony, a 6-foot-2 senior center from Pickens, S.C., is the third Anderson player to be named Player of the Year in the last four years. LaShonda Chiles won the Player of the Year award in 2005, and Deidra Langston won it in 2007. She is the 11th Anderson athlete to be named the league Player of the Year. Anthony led Anderson to its third regular-season title in the last four years and a regular-season record of 25-2 overall and 19-1 in Conference Carolinas. During the regular season, Anthony averaged a double-double and recorded 14 double-doubles in Anderson's 27 regular-season games. She averaged just 27 minutes per game in those 27 games. Her season highs were 25 points against Pfeiffer on Jan. 24 and 17 rebounds against Barton on Jan. 26. Anthony, a transfer from Florida State, led the league in rebounding and field-goal percentage and was named the league's Player of the Week twice. Boyd, a 5-foot-7 junior guard from Newberry, S.C., was the best 3-point shooter in Conference Carolinas. In conference play, she shot almost 40 percent from behind the arc and she ranked first in the conference and 22nd in the country in 3-point percentage. Boyd was fifth in the conference in assists per game, sixth in steals per game, and ninth in scoring. She scored in double figures in 19 regular-season games with a high of 30 points against Augusta State on Dec. 30. She made seven 3-point goals in that game against the Jaguars. At 28 minutes per game, Boyd averaged the most playing time on the Anderson team during the regular season.
