ANDERSON, S.C. - No. 17 Anderson University built a 43-13 halftime lead and went on to record a 78-51 victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. With the victory, Anderson, 20-2 overall and 14-1 in the conference, reached the 20-win plateau for the fifth consecutive season. The loss drops St. Andrews to 5-17, 4-11. St. Andrews scored just four points in the first 12 minutes as Anderson jumped out to a 29-4 lead. Anderson's largest lead of the first half was 32 points - 43-11 - with 1:07 left. Anderson, ranked No. 6 in the East Region poll, opened the second half with a 19-3 run for a 62-16 lead with 14:06 to play. At that point, Anderson head coach Jeff Dow turned the remainder of the game over to his bench. No starter for Anderson played more than 22 minutes. Anderson was led by Latrice Thomas with 15 points, Keana Boyd with 11 points, and Nikki Anthony with 10 points. St. Andrews' Desiree Jones led all scorers with 22 points. Anderson shot 52 percent from the field in the first half and finished the game at 47 percent. St. Andrews finished the game at 38 percent after shooting 47 percent in the second half. Anderson had 20 assists on 27 baskets. Thomas, Boyd, and Shanice Wilson all had four assists apiece. The Lady Trojans scored 25 points off 26 St. Andrews turnovers, and the Anderson bench outscored the St. Andrews bench, 30-7. Anthony had four of Anderson's 16 steals.
