ANDERSON, S.C. -- Keana Boyd scored 28 points and Latrice Thomas tallied 16 to lead No. 15 Anderson University to an 84-59 victory over Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Anderson, 24-2 overall and 18-1 in the conference, won its 17th straight game. The loss drops Pfeiffer to 10-15, 7-11. Anderson took control of the game with a 20-4 run starting at the 14:05 mark of the first half. Boyd, a junior from Newberry, S.C., made three 3-point goals during the run. Two free throws by Genia Holbrook gave Anderson its largest lead of the first half of 18 points - 43-25 - with 45 seconds remaining. Anderson, ranked No. 4 in the East Region, used a 14-1 run early in the second half to extend its lead to 61-34 with 10:37 remaining. Senior Mikala Fogle-Wilson made two 3-point baskets in a span of 1:16 to give Anderson a 73-45 lead with 5:01 to play and go over the 1,000-point mark for her career. Fogle-Wilson is the seventh Lady Trojan to top 1,000 points. After Anderson's lead reached 29 points - 75-46 - with 4:47 left, Pfeiffer got no closer than 24 points the rest of the way. Boyd was 9-for-14 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Pfeiffer was led by Ashelle Athill with 19 points. Kalee Smith chipped in 13, and Devona Knight added 12 for the Falcons. Anderson shot 48 percent from the field while limiting Pfeiffer to just 29 percent. The Falcons shot just 24 percent in the first half. Anthony had 10 rebounds in just 16 minutes to lead Anderson to a 50-38 advantage on the boards. Anderson had 30 points in the paint, and the Anderson bench outscored the Pfeiffer bench, 21-8.
