Lady Trojans End Regular Season By Thumping Queens

ANDERSON, S.C. -- No. 14 Anderson University opened the second half with a 32-7 run and went on to beat Queens University of Charlotte 81-53 in a Conference Carolinas game Friday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 25-2 overall and 19-1 in the conference, won its 18th straight game. The loss drops Queens to 9-18, 9-11. Anderson struggled early and trailed by as many as seven points. But the Lady Trojans started finding their rhythm late in the first half when they snapped a tie at 23 with an 11-4 run for a 34-27 lead with 58 seconds remaining in the first half. Anderson turned a 34-31 halftime lead into a 66-38 advantage with 6:17 remaining. Anderson's largest lead was 30 -- 79-49 -- with 1:24 to play. Anderson shot 47 percent from the field in the second half while limiting Queens to just 25 percent. Anderson showed balance with four players scoring in double figures. Alexa Neal came off the bench to lead Anderson with 16 points. She was followed by Nikki Anthony, Keana Boyd and Mikala Fogle-Wilson, who all scored 15 points. Neal, a freshman from Greensboro, N.C., was 6-for-10 from the field and 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Queens was led by Marissa Hudley with 12 points. Led by Anthony, who had a game-high 11 rebounds, Anderson dominated the boards, 49-32. The double-double was Anthony's 14th of the season. The Lady Trojans outscored Queens by 15 points at the line. Anderson was 25-for-39 from the stripe. Anthony accounted for almost half of Anderson's free throw points (11-17). Anderson scored 30 points off 25 Queens turnovers. Anderson, the regular-season champion, will open play in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Monday at home against eighth-seeded Lees-McRae.
