Women's Track & Field 2nd at Conference

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- The Anderson women's track and field team posted a second-place finish at the 2010 Conference Carolinas Championships hosted by Lees-McRae Saturday afternoon at Arthur, Laurentsen and Sanders Track and Field Complex. Anderson's Lauren Sloan took won the Field Athlete of the Year Award and Limestone's Anisha Barbee as the Saints won the 2010 Conference Carolinas Women's Track and Field Championship for the second consecutive year that earned head coach Kevin Vees Coach of the Year. Sloan took home the Field Athlete of the Year award by sweeping the two throwing events on day two. She won the shot put with a distance of 12.29m and won the discus with a distance of 38.49m. She finished second in the javelin with a distance of 40.26m and second in the javelin with a distance of 33.62m on day one of the meet. Anderson' s Re'Jeania Evans placed second in the 100m dash (12.56) and fifth in the 200m dash (26.98), just behind teammate Krishaun Hall's fourth-place finish in a time of 26.14. Hall claimed first place in the 400m dash with a time of 58.97 and the 800m run saw the Trojans finish 2-3-4, with Whitney Bishoff (2:24.41) taking second, freshman Kathryn Purinton (2:32.73) finishing third and Isabel Berry claiming fourth with a time of 2:34.85. Bishoff won the 5000m event and finished second in the 1500m run (5:03.11), while Amanda Johnson claimed fourth (5:28.0). Joelle Purinton notched a third-place finish in the 100m hurdles in a time of 16.52 and Katelyn Rodgers crossed the finish line in eighth place (17.83). She claimed fourth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump. Teammate Lauren Sloan won the shot put and discus throw, with Durecelle Campbell adding to her long list of top-10 finishes by garnering sixth in the discus throw and ninth in the shot put.
