Trojan Track and Field Picked Third

ANDERSON, S.C. -- In the first-ever Conference Carolinas women's track and field poll, the Anderson women's track and field team has been selected to finish third by the coaches, as released Wednesday afternoon by the conference office. The Trojans, who finished a close second just behind Limestone in the 2009 conference championships, earned two first-place votes and 24 points to place just behind Limestone and Lees-McRae in the poll. Head Coach Randy Greer will look to continue AU's success in 2010 behind a group of talented and versatile Trojans. Sophomore Lauren Sloan, who earned Freshman of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year in the league last season, will help lead the way. Also returning are long-distance standout Whitney Bishoff, who capped a stellar cross country season with a top-25 finish at nationals last fall, along with Katelyn Rodgers and freshman Emily Eckroth. Rodgers won the javelin toss at the 2009 conference championships with a distance of 27.29m, while Coach Randy Greer will also be looking for newcomer Emily Eckroth to carry over her success as well. Anderson opened the season at the Appalachian State Open on Jan. 15 and competed this past weekend at ETSU's Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn. AU is back in action Friday and Saturday at UNC Chapel Hill's Dick Taylor Carolina Classic. Conference Carolinas Pre-Season Coaches Poll (1st place votes in parenthesis) 1.
