Track and Field Competes at Appalachian Open

BOONE, N.C. -- The Anderson track and field teams opened their indoor seasons with strong outings Friday afternoon at the Appalachian State Open at the Holmes Convocation Center. AU sophomore thrower Lauren Sloan, the reigning Conference Carolinas Field Athlete of the Year, notched a fifth-place finish in the shot put, recording a toss of 11.26m. Durecelle Campbell also had an impressive outing, taking fourth in the women's weight throw with a distance of 12.85m, setting a personal best and a school record in the process. Katelyn Rodgers posted a top-10 finish in the high jump, finishing ninth, while Krishaun Hall ran a time of 7.65 in the finals of the 55 meter dash, bringing home a seventh-place finish. Whitney Bishoff, the reigning two-time conference titleholder in the cross country 5K, claimed third in the 3000m, finishing less than two seconds behind the frontrunners. The AU men's track and field team saw Alex Jordan (4:39.93) and Nigel Reynolds (4:53.11) take ninth and 15th respectively in the one-mile run, while Matt Shaffer recorded a 10th-place finish with a time of 2:03.31 in the 800m run. Other participating teams included Appalachian State, Emory, Lees-McRae, Winthrop, Winston-Salem State, Mars Hill, UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb, Guilford, Montreat, Chattahoochee Tech and Milligan. Anderson will get back in action on Friday and Saturday when the Trojans travel to Johnson City, Tenn., for ETSU's Niswonger Invitational. Results
