Men's Track and Field Fourth at Conference

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- The Anderson men's track and field team placed fourth at the 2010 Conference Carolinas Track and Field Championships, hosted by Lees-McRae at the Arthur, Laurentsen and Sanders Track and Field Complex on the campus of Lees-McRae College. The Bobcats swept the top awards at the event, with Joe Daher winning Field Athlete of the Year, Chris Glenn repeating as the Track Athlete of the Year and head coach Ley Fletcher winning Coach of the Year. Anderson's Josh Butler earned second place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.16 and also collected a sixth-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 22.72. Matt Shaffer (1:58.54) and Alex Jordan (2:01.84) finished second and third, respectively in the 800m run, while Drew Mahaffey garnered eighth with a time of 2:04.94. Jordan also claimed second in the 1500m, crossing the line in a time of 4:05.68. Nigel Reynolds posted a time of 4:28.12 (7th) and Ryne Welch (4:37.00) finished 10th. Alex Pena placed fourth in the 3000m steeplechase (10:54.14), with Zach Hart collecting third in the pole vault and eighth in the long jump. Will Byars claimed third in both the shot put (12.82) and the discus (34.94). Lees-McRae won the team event with 223 total points to win by margin of a hundred and eleven points ahead of second place Limestone, who had 112 points. Mount Olive finished third with 83 points followed by Anderson with 79 points, Queens with 70 points, St. Andrews with 45 points and Belmont Abbey with four points.
