KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second time in his stellar career, Anderson University forward Lasse Sohrweide has been named to the 2011 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men's Soccer All-America First Team, as announced early Thursday morning.
Sohrweide led Division II with 47 points on 17 goals and 13 assists, while helping lead the Trojans to the 2011 South Atlantic Conference regular-season title and their second straight SAC tournament championship en route to notching their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Anderson won 16 of its last 18 matches, setting a new school record for wins, with 17.
The native of Flensberg, Germany claimed Southeast Region Player of the Year and SAC Player of the Year recognition honors for the second straight year, while also earning SAC All-Conference First-team accolades. The senior forward led the SAC in points, goals, match-winners, and assists, while ranking first in the nation in points, second in the nation in assists and fifth in goals scored. He wrapped up his career with 59 goals and 35 assists.
Sohrweide was also named to the Conference All-Tournament team, while AU wrapped up the season ranked 15th in the nation in scoring offense and seventh in total goals scored.
Senior forward Mark Anderson of Barry (Fla.) University was named the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year. Anderson, of Durham, England, leads Division II with 21 goals and ranks second with 46 points. The South Region Player of the Year finished his four-year career with 59 goals and 150 points.
Joining Sohrweide and Anderson at the other first-team forward spots are sophomore Tesho Akindele of Colorado School of Mines and senior Chance Bukoski of Hawaii Pacific. Akindele and Sohrweide also made the Daktronics All-America first team last year. Akindele collected 16 goals and 43 points. Bukoski finished with 18 goals and 44 points.
Senior defender Tom Reilly of national semifinalist Franklin Pierce (N.H.) was selected to the first team for the second year in a row. He is joined on the first team by teammate Diego Tabares, a senior midfielder for the Ravens. Seattle Pacific (Wash.) also placed two players on the first team in senior midfielder Tyler Schultz and junior defender Jon Pearman. Schultz ranks among the national leaders with 16 goals.
Juniors Rob Vincent of Charleston (W.Va.) and Joseph Toby of Flagler (Fla.) earned first-team midfielder spots. Vincent scored 27 points on nine goals and nine assists. Toby posted 30 points on 11 goals and eight assists. The remaining first-team defenders are senior Fabian Kling of national semifinalist Fort Lewis (Colo.) and senior Taylor Rivas of Cal State Los Angeles.
Rounding out the first team is sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Bass of Rockhurst (Mo.). Bass leads Division II keepers in goals against average (0.33) and ranks second in save percentage (.885) while posting 14 shutouts.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences sponsoring men's soccer selected the Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team All-Region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the sixth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II men's soccer All-America and All-Region teams.
