Trojans Move to Sixth in Nation in Latest NSCAA Poll

ANDERSON, S.C. - On the heels of clinching the South Atlantic Conference regular-season championship, the Anderson University men's soccer team leaped four spots to No. six in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire Regional Rankings released on Tuesday.

Anderson (13-2, 8-0) earned a pair of conference wins last week, defeating Newberry, 4-1, at home and blanking Lincoln Memorial to extend its school-record win streak to 11 matches and has won 13 of its last 14 outings.

The Trojans were ranked ninth two weeks ago and 10th a week ago, with the No. six ranking marking the highest in school history, as AU pursues its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

The Trojan offense ranks seventh in the country nationally, averaging 2.67 goals per contest and is ninth in the nation in total goals, with 40 on the season.

The AU defense has recorded seven shutouts and ranks 23rd nationally in shutout percentage, while the Trojan goalkeepers have combined to post a save percentage of 0.812 to rank 29th in the country.

Reigning SAC Player of the Week, Lasse Sohrweide, ranks in the top 10 in the nation in six offensive categories, including assists, points and goals. Net-minder Lukas Hesse is 31st nationally with a 0.871 goals-against average and 40th with his .797 save percentage. Senior Mark Smith is 35th in the nation with his six assists on the season.

The Trojans remain the lone South Atlantic Conference team in the national rankings, while fellow SAC member Mars Hill was fourth in Tuesday's regional poll.

The NCAA regional rankings, which are used to determine tournament invitations, are scheduled to be released on Wednesday.

Anderson travels to Erskine on Wednesday before wrapping up the regular season on Saturday against Wingate. Kick-off versus the Flying Fleet is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Due West.
