Men’s Soccer Ranked 10th in the Nation in NSCAA Poll

ANDERSON, S.C. - Despite sweeping two wins last week, the Anderson University men's soccer team slipped one notch in both the National and Southeast Regional rankings in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire Regional Rankings released on Tuesday.

Anderson (11-2, 6-0), which is in first place in the South Atlantic Conference standings, shut out Brevard and defeated Tusculum last week to stretch its school-record win streak to nine matches and has won 11 of its last 12 contests.

With the overtime win past TC, the Trojans posted their 13th home win in 14 matches since beginning play at Trojan Stadium.

Last week's poll saw AU move up 12 spots to gain its highest ranking in school history, at ninth.

The Trojans possess an explosive offense that ranks fifth in the country nationally, averaging 2.69 goals per contest and is 10th in the nation in total goals, with 35 on the season.

The stellar AU defense has recorded six shutouts and ranks 25th nationally in shutout percentage, while the Trojan goalkeepers have combined to post a save percentage of 0.813 to rank 30th in the country.

Individually, senior forward Lasse Sohrweide ranks in the top 20 in the nation in six offensive categories, including assists, points and goals. Goalkeeper Lukas Hesse is 39th with a 0.928 goals-against average and 41st with his .797 save percentage. Senior Mark Smith moved into the top 100 in assists by notching a pair last Saturday.

The Trojans are the lone South Atlantic Conference team in the national rankings, while fellow SAC member Mars Hill jumped to fourth in Tuesday's regional poll.

The NCAA regional rankings, which will eventually be used to determine tourney invitations and seeding, are scheduled to be released on Wednesday.
