Four Trojans Named to Daktronics All-Southeast Region Team

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University senior Lasse Sohrweide headlined the 2011 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Men's Soccer team, garnering Southeast Region Player of the Year honors for the second straight year to lead a group of three repeat selections, as announced by region officials.

Sohrweide garnered Southeast Region Player of the Year honors for the second straight season after earning SAC Player of the Year recognition for the second consecutive year. The senior forward led the SAC in points, goals, match-winners, and assists, while ranking third in the nation in helpers and fifth in markers.

Senior defender Kevin Butler joined Sohrweide on the first team, while midfielders Mark Smith and Shu Ogawa earned second-team accolades.

All four were also named First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference after helping lead the team to the regular-season SAC Championship, its second consecutive SAC Tournament title, a No. 6 national ranking and a school-record 11-match win streak.

Butler was a big-play defender and the anchor of a defense that posted nine shutouts and ranked nationally in total team goals-against. He was named to the South Atlantic Conference all-tournament team in both 2010 and 2011. Ogawa, a defensive midfielder who ranked third on the team with three assists on the season, started 14 consecutive matches last season before suffering an injury. Smith was among league and national leaders with his six assists, while starting every contest.

Flagler College paced the region with five all-region selections, while Anderson placed four players in the two-team group. Coker College and Lees-McRae College also received three selections each. Sohrweide was joined by 2010 selections Luke Duffy of Lees-McRae and Tom Winspear of King College.

The Daktronics NCAA Division II all-Southeast Region Teams are voted on by the sports information directors of the Southeast Region, comprised of the Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt Conference, and the South Atlantic Conference.

Members of the first team are now eligible for Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America honors.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
