Miller Optimistic About Future Of Program

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson College men's soccer team had a long, strange ride in 2003, but head coach Rob Miller is still optimistic the Trojans are headed in the right direction. "Starting the 2003 season, I felt like we had a lot of talent, but injuries and bad luck struck our team," Miller said. "Blake Wood, our leading scorer in 2002, was injured most of the season. But our team was determined and continued batting. Many of the negative things that happen to young teams happened to us. We had many matches go down to the final minutes. We played six overtime matches. With five to seven freshmen starting, inexperience usually shows up late in matches." "But we gained some valuable experience, and I think these guys will return next season with plenty of determination to become a better team. We are building something special here at Anderson College, and I believe we can get it done and become a major factor in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference." Miller liked the physical effort he received from his team and now is concentrating on a well-rounded off-season program that will improve the returning players both physically and mentally. "In January, we will begin our off-season training program with weight lifting and working on our explosive speed," Miller said. "The 2003 season was a learning experience for all of us. Now, we want to take the positives from this year and move forward." Miller is currently in the process of upgrading AC's talent level. "We are recruiting some top-quality student-athletes to join our program," Miller said. "We are looking for players who want to be successful both on the field and in the classroom. Anderson College is a special place, and we are determined to have top-quality program."
