De Oliveria's Hat Trick Dooms Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. - Freshman Alex De Oliveria broke open a close match with three goals in a 17-minute span in the second half to lead Carson-Newman to a 4-0 victory over Anderson College in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at Smethers Field. The Eagles, 4-2-1 overall, led 1-0 at the half before De Oliveria took over. He scored on a one-timer at 52:50 off a pass from Bradley Cobbs, at 55:23 off a long pass by Renato Freitas, and at 69:43 on a breakaway with Jean-Pierre Janvier. The lone goal of the first half came at the 11:15 mark when Marius Arnesen scored off a pass from Cobbs. Carson-Newman outshot AC, 13-9 and had seven corner kicks to AC's three. Carson-Newman goalkeeper Tyler Baldock made four saves to earn the shutout. The loss drops Anderson to 0-7-1.
