AC Suffers Its Third Straight One-Goal Loss

ANDERSON, S.C. - Miles Childers scored five minutes into the second half and Newberry held on for a 2-1 victory over Anderson College in a non-conference match Tuesday night at Smethers Field. Newberry, 4-0 overall, is now 3-0 against the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference this season. The Indians have victories over Queens, St. Andrews, and AC. Anderson, 0-4, has lost its last three matches by one goal. Jeffrey Taylor opened the scoring for the Indians with 23:14 remaining in the first half. Anderson got the tying goal 1:21 into the second half when Trey Aull scored off a pass from Marcus Bradley. Childers got the game winner just three minutes later then the Indians hung on. Newberry played the final 13:50 a man down after Jeff Hinshaw received a red card. Anderson outshot Newberry, 22-11. Newberry goalkeeper Tim Serbert made nine saves, while AC keeper Jack Ward made eight saves. The Trojans open CVAC play Saturday at 2 p.m. when they play host to Barton.
