Hansard's Goal Gives AC Men Their First Victory

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Trevor Hansard scored in the 117th minute to give Anderson a 2-1 overtime victory over Coker in a CVAC match Saturday afternoon. The victory, AC's first of the season, improves the Trojans to 1-9-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the CVAC. The match was AC's fourth overtime match of the season. The loss drops Coker to 1-8-1 on the season and 1-4 in the CVAC. Hansard netted the game winner in the 117th minute on a well-placed shot that beat keeper Aaron Osteen to the near post. Hansard's strike came after AC had gone down a man on Chase Steele's red card in the 103rd minute. The two teams played a competitive first half but went into the break knotted at 0-0. Coker finally pulled ahead in front of a large homecoming crowd in the 58th minute on a goal by senior Derek Whitmire. The ball was deflected following a cross to the top of the box, where Whitmire hammered a dipping shot by AC keeper Jack Ward. The Cobras seemed to let up a bit after the goal, however, and five minutes later Anderson equalized. Osteen made a fabulous diving save, but the rebound went right to Marcus Bradley, who calmly fired the ball past the scrambling keeper. The match remained tied through the end of regulation and Coker quickly established control of the first overtime period. Coker controlled possession and created several dangerous chances which were just off target. The real blow for the Trojans seemed to come on Steele's hard tackle from behind which resulted in a straight red card for the freshman. Season Statistics
