AC Makes Big Step Toward Tourney With Upset Of L-M

ANDERSON, S.C. - Michael Zion scored two goals in the second half off direct kicks and Jack Ward and Jason Brown combined for the first shutout of the season to lead Anderson College to a 2-0 upset of Lees-McRae in a men's CVAC match Saturday afternoon. The victory improves Anderson's record to 2-10-3 overall and 2-3-3 in the CVAC and greatly improves the Trojans' chances of making the CVAC Tournament. The loss drops Lees-McRae to 10-6 overall and 6-2 in the CVAC. The Trojans are unbeaten in their last three matches. After a scoreless first half, Zion got AC on the board six minutes into the second half with a header off a direct kick of Jody Forno. Thirteen minutes later, Zion and Forno hooked up again to give AC a 2-0 lead. Ward made eight saves in 81 minutes and Brown made two saves in nine minutes for AC's first shutout of the season.
