North Georgia Scores In First OT To Beat AC, 4-3

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Rene' Alvarez scored on a 25-yard free kick with 1:02 remaining in the first overtime period to give North Georgia a 4-3 victory over Anderson College in a non-conference match Tuesday night at Smethers Field. North Georgia, 5-6 overall, fell behind 1-0, scored three unanswered goals, and then gave up the lead when AC stormed back in the final 30 minutes to tie the match at 3. Anderson, 0-9-1 overall, has now played three overtime matches this season and has lost six matches by one goal. The Trojans opened the scoring with the fastest goal in the history of the four-year program. Marcus Bradley scored just 48 seconds into the match to give AC a 1-0 lead. But the Saints answered with goals by Calvin Smith at 7:39, Jason Bouasy at 24:27, and Jose' Chalas at 56:34 to seize a 3-1 lead. Jake Nelson assisted Smith and Chalas. From that point, AC picked up the attack and managed to score twice to tie the match. Jody Forno scored two goals, the first on a rebound at 60:13 and the second on a penalty kick at 77:00, to send the match to overtime. With 1:02 remaining in the first overtime, AC was called for a hand ball. On the restart, Alverez booted the ball into the upper left corner for the match winner. The shots were even at 18 apiece. Anderson had 18 fouls to 11 for North Georgia.
