Men’s Golf to Wrap up Fall Slate at State Farm Intercollegiate

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's golf team will close out its fall schedule by competing at the State farm Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by Lincoln Memorial at the Woodlake Golf Club in Tazewell, Tenn.

The Trojans finished ninth at the event, which was shortened to one round in 2014, with Forrest Fowler finishing in a tie for 36th as a freshman, while Payton Whitlock shared 49th place.

The tournament is set for a two-day, 54-hole event - 36 on Monday and 18 on Tuesday – and will feature a 13-team field. Joining the Trojans will be the host Railsplitters, Lenoir-Rhyne, Carson-Newman, Tusculum, Mars Hill, Walters State Community College, Catawba, Coker, Barton, Newberry, Brevard and Southern Wesleyan.

AU is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, with Weston Bell's season-best 2-under-par 70 in the second round propelling the graduate student to a share of ninth place. Sophomore Grayson Bell tied for 13th place, with sophomore David Monroe finishing in a tie for 29th. Fowler claimed a share of 48th place, with freshman Jake Miller sharing 60th place.

Sophomores Grayson Bell and Monroe, along with Fowler and Weston Bell have combined for four top-10 finishes over the course of three events this fall. Grayson Bell claimed a share of third place at the AU Invitational with a 3-over-par 147, while Monroe finished in a tie for seventh after carding a two-day 6-over-par 150. Fowler shared fourth place at the Queens Collegiate Invitational three weeks ago in Kannapolis, N.C., with a 4-over-par 146.

Fowler's first-round 69 at the Queens Collegiate continues to mark the low round for AU through the three events, with Fowler and Grayson Bell posting a team-best 74.50 stroke average on the year. Monroe is just behind with a 75.83 average.
