SALISBURY, N.C. – Paced by sophomore David Monroe's two-day 3-over-par 145, the Anderson University men's golf team opened its spring slate with a sixth-place finish at the Richard Rendleman Invitational, which was hosted by Catawba at the Country Club of Salisbury.
Lincoln Memorial overcame a five-stroke deficit and vaulted from fifth place to win the team title by one stroke over Queens, the first-round leader. North Greenville and Coker were each one stroke further back in a tie for third, with Lenoir-Rhyne finishing fifth. The Trojans occupied the sixth slot, with Pfeiffer in seventh.
Brevard, Wingate, Catawba, Tusculum, Belmont Abbey and Livingstone rounded out the 13-team field.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Brad Robinson (68-70=138) led the event wire-to-wire and claimed individual medalist honors by three strokes over Queens' John McFadyen (72-69=141).
Monroe jumped from a share of ninth place following Monday's first round into a six-way tie for seventh, while freshman Jake Miller and senior Payton Whitlock each posted a two-round 11-over-par 153 and finished tied for 34th. Sophomore Grayson Bell carded a two-day 154 and shared 39th place, with graduate student Weston Bell rounding out the Trojan contingent in a tie for 54th with a 158.
The Trojans will get back on the links at next week's Southern Tide Classic, which is scheduled to be hosted by North Greenville at the Green Valley Country Club.
