Second Round of SAC Men’s Golf Championship Washed Out  - Tournament Shortened to 27 Holes

SALISBURY, N.C. – Due to heavy and persistent rain throughout the region, the South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship has been shortened to 27 holes, as announced by the conference office Monday morning.

Three of the 12 teams (11 players) in the tournament were unable to complete the first round on Sunday and are scheduled to finish their opening 18 holes early Tuesday morning.

The final nine holes of the championship are slated for a 10 a.m. tee time on Tuesday.

The Trojans were among the nine teams that were able to wrap up Sunday's first round and currently in ninth place, just one shot behind Wingate.

Carson-Newman leads the 12-team field, with Newberry and Queens sharing the second spot. Coker is two shots further back in fourth place, while Lincoln Memorial, the defending champion, is in fifth.

Brevard and Tusculum are tied for sixth, with Wingate holding the eighth slot and Mars Hill in 10th. The host Indians are 11th and are looking for their fifth overall championship and first since sharing the 2000 title with Presbyterian. Lenoir-Rhyne rounds out the field in 12th place.

Tusculum's Cameron Duggar and Queens' Gilberto Pena are tied atop the leaderboard after carding first-round 69s Sunday. Six others are one shot further back.

Senior Payton Whitlock led the Trojans and is in 19th place, while sophomore David Monroe is one shot further back in 25th place. Fellow sophomore Grayson Bell is in 29th place, with freshman Jake Miller in 35th. Graduate student Weston Bell is in 42nd place.
