Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at AU Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – Paced by sophomore Grayson Bell's two-day 3-over-par 147, the Anderson University men's golf team wrapped up the AU Invitational in fourth place after Tuesday's final round at the par-72, 7,005-yard Cobb's Glen Country Club course.

Catawba (295-300=595) claimed the team title by four shots over Southern Wesleyan (303-296=599), which jumped into the runner-up spot from third following Monday's first round. Bob Jones University (302-305=607) slipped into
third place, while the Trojans remained in fourth with a two-day 609. Belmont Abbey (B) was three strokes further back with a two-round 612, with Erskine (318-305=623) vaulting from ninth to sixth.

Spartanburg Methodist (311-315=626), Emmanuel (320-314=634), Mars Hill (314-325=639) and Belmont Abbey (C) (313-336=649) rounded out the 10-team field.

Catawba's Mac Shepphard slipped eight shots from his first-round effort, but held off Belmont Abbey's Jacob Scruggs to win individual honors by one stroke. Grayson Bell, who led the tourney with 10 birdies, trimmed three strokes from Monday's opening round to claim a tie for third, alongside Mars Hill's Adam Lumley.

Sophomore David Monroe, who carded seven birdies, slipped from a tie for fourth into a share of seventh, while freshman Jake Miller reached par on 24 holes to claim a tie for 25th. Weston Bell slashed 10 strokes off his first-round effort to share 27th place, with Drake McAlister also cutting his opening-round score by 10 shots and finishing in a tie for 33rd. Senior Payton Whitlock improved by five strokes and finished in a tie for 38th.

AU returns to the links in a week, when the Trojans head to the Queen City for the Royals' Invitational, set for Irish Creek Country Club.
