Men’s Golf in Third Place Following First Round of Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. – Paced by sophomore Grayson Bell even-par 71, the Anderson University men's golf team is in third place following the opening round of the Richard Rendleman Invitational, which is being hosted by Catawba at the Country Club of Salisbury.

In the Trojans first tournament of the spring, Queens leads North Greenville by three shots, while the Trojans are just one stroke further back. Coker occupies the fourth spot, two shots behind AU and Lincoln Memorial is in fifth place following Monday's opening round. Lenoir-Rhyne trails the Railsplitters by three strokes and occupies sixth place.

Brevard, Wingate, Pfeiffer, Catawba, Tusculum, Livingstone and Belmont Abbey round out the 13-team field.

Lenoir-Rhyne's Brad Robinson fired an opening-round 3-under-par 68 and leads four golfers - Bell, North Greenville's Christian Constance and Evan Gfeller, and Queens' Gilberto Pena by three shots.

AU freshman Jake Miller and sophomore David Monroe are in a six-way tie for ninth after firing first-round 73s, while senior Payton Whitlock shares 24th-place after a 76 on Monday. Graduate student Weston Bell rounded out the Trojan contingent in a tie for 55th after posting a first-round 81.

The two-day event is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday.
