GREENWOOD, S.C. – Graduate student Weston Bell posted a second-place finish and freshman Jake Miller finished in a three-way tie for third, as the Anderson men's golf team finished in a tie for eighth at the Eighth Annual Bearcat Classic, hosted by Lander at the par-72, 6,800-yard Greenwood Country Club.
The 17th-ranked and host Bearcats won the three-round tourney by seven shots over 10th-ranked Newberry, with Georgia College finishing third, five strokes further back. No. 18 Lincoln Memorial claimed fourth place, while Coker and No. 20 Flagler finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Brevard finished seventh, with Anderson and Barton sharing the eighth spot.
No.24 Belmont Abbey and Erskine tied for 10th, with Wingate, West Georgia, North Georgia, King, Lenoir-Rhyne, Mount Olive and Eckerd rounding out the 18-team field.
Lander's Michal Pospisil held off Weston Bell for individual medalist honors, with Miller sharing third place with Barton's Justin Plane and Belmont Abbey's Nick Stafford. Sophomore Grayson Bell finished in a tie for 71st, with classmate David Monroe claiming a share of 74th place. Senior Payton Whitlock wrapped up the Trojan contingent alone in 78th place.
The Trojans will get back on the links Monday and Tuesday at the Tennessee River Rumble, which is slated to be hosted by Lincoln Memorial at the Tennessee National Country Club.
