Green Tosses Out First Pitch; Trojans Sweep Falcons

ANDERSON, S.C. – Beloved retired Director of Campus Recreation and Fitness at Anderson University, Winfred Green, tossed out the first pitch to open up the Trojans home slate. Anderson University softball polished off the celebration by sweeping nonconference opponent St. Augustine's in two five inning games winning game one, 12-0, and game two, 13-0 on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

"It is always nice to pick up two wins, said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "SAU always gives all they have and Coach Neal at SAU has worked hard to raise the level of play there."  

On the day, Anderson outhit the Falcons 27-4 while scoring 25 total runs between the pair of games.

Senior Jessica Neadow batted 3-for-6 with a double, triple and home run. Senior Kayson Boatner went 4-for-6 with three doubles, whiles sophomore Hannah Whitaker went 5-of-6 with a triple. Freshman Maddie Carpenter batted 3-for-5 drilling her second career home run.

The Trojans pitching staff collected 19 strikeouts on the day. Sophomore Laken Maxwell (3-0) pitched four innings, giving up one hit while striking out 11. Freshman Emily LaFoy pitched one inning, giving up no hits and striking out one. Game two starter, graduate Harlie Duncan (2-1) pitched four innings, giving up three hits and striking out six. Freshman Trinity Queen pitched an inning, striking out two.

Anderson returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to nonconference opponent Southern Wesleyan. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2pm.
