Boatner and Dortch Named Jimmy John's Athletes of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. – Kayson Boatner of softball and Parker Dortch of men's basketball have been named the Jimmy John's Athletes of the Week.

Boatner, a senior from Phenix City, Ala., helped lead the 23rd-ranked Trojans to a 6-0 showing last week.

Over a six-game stretch, Boatner hit .650 with 13 hits, eight of which left the yard, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored and a 1.900 slugging percentage. She homered, recorded an RBI and scored in each contest. Boatner clubbed two home runs and drove in five against Frostburg State and capped off the week with two more long balls, including a grand slam and a game-ending three run home run, seven RBI and three runs scored versus Augusta. The senior first baseman scored at least twice in every game and recorded five multi-hit contests.

Boatner is currently tied for second with 2014 standout Abby Child, in the AU record books and the South Atlantic Conference record books with 47 career home runs. 2018 graduate Cailah Niles sits at the top with 63 total career home runs.

Men's basketball forward Parker Dortch helped lead the Trojans to a win over Lenoir-Rhyne last Saturday, while averaging 22.0 points in a pair of games last week.

Dortch began the week by pouring in a game-high 25 points, including 17 in the second half, in Wednesday's narrow loss to Newberry. The Columbus, N.J., native was 9-for-13 from the field against the Wolves and pulled down six rebounds and handed out two assists.

He followed up by leading all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field in AU's three-point win over Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, while handing out three assists, swiping three steals and recording five rebounds.

Dortch in 10th in the South Atlantic Conference with 15.3 points per game and ranks eighth in the league with his 56.4 percent field goal accuracy.

Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
