Softball Picks Up Two Wins At North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Anderson University softball (3-1) used a combined 19 hits to outscore North Greenville (0-2) 10-2 on the day, winning game 1, 5-2, and winning the nightcap, 5-0,  on Friday afternoon at Jan McDonald Field.

"We bounced back today and hit the ball well, but still have a ways to go" said head coach Tommy Hewitt.

"I was happy the way our defense played in both games and Laken and Harlie only gave up four hits apiece," stated Hewitt. "They both made pitches when they had to, but as a whole we gave up too many walks today."

Seniors Morgan Charter and Sydney Belcher each went 2-for-4 in game one, with freshman Maddie Carpenter going 1-for-3 with her first career home run.

Anderson scored first in the second inning when Belcher singled to left center to score Charter, followed by Williams right field single to score Whitaker from second base.

North Greenville answered back with a lone run in the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half, 2-1.

After a free pass to AU's Whitaker, Carpenter drilled a two-run shot over left center to give the Trojans a, 4-1, cushion.  The Crusaders pushed a solo run across in the bottom of the sixth inning, 4-2, with Anderson's Charter scoring her second run of the game in the top-half of the seventh to give the Black and Gold a, 5-2, lead. North Greenville came up empty during its final three outs.

Freshman Laken Maxwell (2-0) got the nod in game one, giving up four hits and striking out eight. Maxwell did walk six batters, but was able to pitch out of the miscues.

Anderson held North Greenville scoreless in game two, scoring five runs to blank the Crusaders.

Senior Kayson Boatner went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run, while sophomore Hannah Whitaker went 2-for-4 with a triple. Senior Jessica Neadow drove one deep to hit her first home run of the season.

Senior Harlie Duncan (1-1) pitched well, despite putting on eight batters. Duncan ended the game with a complete shutout while striking out five.

Anderson is scheduled to host nonconference opponent St. Augustine's on Saturday. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2pm.
