COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Anderson University softball team extended its win streak to 12 games by sweeping Columbia College, 8-5 and 2-0, Thursday afternoon at Sutton Softball Field.

Anderson improved to 12-2 on the season with the pair of wins, while Columbia fell to 3-7.

Game #1
Anderson 8, Columbia 5

Sophomore shortstop Abby Child was 2-for-3 in the opener, including her team-leading fifth home run of the season with two out in the first inning. Child also recorded a fufth-inning single for her second RBI of the game. Freshman Jessica Neidigh went 2-for-4 and scored twice, while sophomore first baseman Daniele Swygert also ripped a pair of singles in four trips to the plate.

Freshman pitcher Larissa Ostapiak (5-1) survived a rocky third inning to record her team-leading sixth complete game of the season, striking out six and walking three.

Anderson posted solo runs in each of the first three frames before Columbia rallied with five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-3 lead.

The Trojans pulled even with a pair of runs in the fifth, as pinch-hitter Rebecca Martin laced her fourth triple of the season to right field, scoring Jessica Neidigh, who led off the inning with a single and had stolen second.

Neidigh crossed the plate with the tying run on Child's single to left.

Neither team pushed a run across in the sixth, but AU capitalized on a Fighting Koala error and a pair of walks to score three in the top of the seventh to take an 8-5 lead. Ostapiak then worked out of a bases-loaded two-out jam in the bottom of the frame by getting the final Columbia batter to fly out to Sieber in center to secure the win.

Game #2
Anderson 2, Columbia 0

Neidigh, Martin, Swygert and Amber Duncan each went 1-for-3 with doubles in the nightcap to give Duncan all the offensive support the right-hander needed to earn the win.

Duncan, a senior, improved to 6-0, while tossing a complete-game three-hitter en route to her second shutout of the season. She struck out 10 Fighting Koalas and walked just one. The right-handed hurler did not allow a hit until sophomore Lindsay Knipp led off the fifth inning with an infield single. Duncan lowered her ERA to a stellar 1.01 on the season by surrendering just the three singles - one in each of the final three innings.

Neidigh and Martin recorded back-to-back one-out doubles in the third inning to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead and Swygert ripped a clutch two-out double to center field to plate Martin with an insurance run.

Anderson will get back on the diamond with a Sunday afternoon doubleheader versus West Georgia. First-pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Smethers Field.
