Men's Tennis Selected for Eleventh NCAA Appearance

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson men's tennis team has been selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division II Championships as announced by the selection committee Wednesday night.

Anderson (13-8) joins two other teams from Conference Carolinas - Limestone (11-10) and conference tournament champion Lees-McRae (14-3) in the 62-team field. Armstrong Atlantic (27-1) will host the event at Bacon Park in Savannah, Ga. Play begins on Thursday, May 6, at 10 a.m. with a pair of men's first-round matches.

Peach Belt Conference school Flagler (13-8) and Limestone will meet in one matchup, while the Trojans, who are making their eighth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 11th overall, will face Lees-McRae in the first round, marking the third time Anderson has met the Bobcats this season. Lees-McRae, ranked 25th in the nation, topped the 24th ranked Trojans 7-2 at the Max Grubbs Courts in late March and the Bobcats edged AU, 5-4, for the league tournament title. AU and Limestone met in Gaffney, S.C., in early April with the Trojans claiming a comfortable 7-2 victory.

The winner of the AU-Lees-McRae contest will advance to meet top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic, the two-time NCAA Division II defending national champion. The Pirates defeated Anderson, 8-1, in the Trojans' third match of the season.
