ANDERSON, S.C. -- Playing its second match in as many days, Anderson stepped out of conference action and dominated South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill, 9-0, in men's tennis action Saturday afternoon on the AU campus. With the convincing win, Anderson improved to 2-0 on the young season, while Mars Hill fell to 0-3. The Trojans swept double action as the tandem of Stephane Murray and Stan Atema improved to 2-0 on the season by defeating Lucas Simm and Koeche Smith, 8-5, at the No. 1 spot, while AU's Renato Assuncao and Ilya Zakharov edged the Lions' Alessandro du Besse and Bradley Bassinger, 8-6, at No. 2. Action at the No. 3 slot saw Anderson's Daniel Gonzalez and Deni Mehagic team up to ease past the Mars Hill tandem of Carlos Oyaga and Zach High, 8-2. For the second consecutive day, the Anderson squad swept the singles matches as Murray defeated du Besse, 6-2, 7-5 and Assuncao slipped past Smith, 6-4, 7-6, at No. 2. Atema got past Simm , in three sets at No. 3, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, with Mehagic knocking off Oyaga in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. Ilya Zakharov defeated 6-0, 6-4, at No. 5 and AU's John Karle closed out the afternoon's action by blanking Zach High, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6. Anderson gets back on the courts by paying a visit to top-ranked and two-time defending NCAA DII national champion Armstrong Atlantic State on Sunday, with the match set for 3 p.m. at Bacon Park in Savannah.
