Onger's Goal Gives Anderson The Upset

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Lahnden Onger took a pass from Paulo Passini and scored on a breakaway at the 81:44 mark to lead Anderson University to a 1-0 upset over Tusculum Saturday afternoon at Smethers Field. The victory, Anderson's fourth in its last five matches, improves the Trojans to 8-10. The loss drops Tusculum to 9-7-2. After a scoreless first half, both teams turned up the intensity in the second half. Passini's pass through the defense found Onger, who dribbled down the left wing and fired the ball into the lower right corner of the Pioneer net. Onger, a junior from Abilene, Texas, now has four goals this season. The assist was Passini's second of the season. Tusculum's best chance to score came less than a minute later when Bruno Conceicao blasted a shot from 12 yards out that hit the crossbar and bounced down outside the goal line. Tusculum took 12 shots while Anderson took nine. Anderson goalkeeper Preston Freeman made six saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season. Tusculum goalkeeper Lance Moore made one save. Anderson will play in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament Tuesday. Anderson University Men's Soccer Statistics
