Trojans Open Conference Play With Victory

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Jaime Henao scored on a rebound at 77:54 to give Anderson University a 2-1 victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian in the Conference Carolinas opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Smethers Field. It was a physical match on a hot and steamy afternoon. The match featured 33 fouls and eight yellow cards. "It was ugly, but we fought hard and won the match," said Anderson head coach Rob Miller. "We stayed tough at the end. We needed a win. St. Andrews has a big, athletic team. They beat us at their place last year, and we got them here this year." Anderson improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas. St. Andrews falls to 2-2-1, 0-1. Anderson scored its first goal just 22 seconds into the match. Stephon Henry scooted down the left wing and played a ball into the box that Paulo Passini put into the back of the net with a header. Anderson held the lead until the 71:16 mark when Jerry Momoh knocked in a loose ball for the equalizer. With the match headed for overtime, Anderson put together one final push and managed to get the game winner. Rayon Markland took a shot from the right wing that got knocked around until Henao collected it and scored the game winner. St. Andrews took 12 shots, while Anderson took eight shots. Anderson goalkeeper Adrian Osborne made six saves to earn the victory. St. Andrews goalkeeper Nick Stevens made four saves. Anderson University Men's Soccer Statistics
