Anderson Falls To Lander

ANDERSON, S.C. -- No. 23 Lander got one goal and one assist apiece from Aaron Brittain and Craig Hughes on its way to a 3-0 victory over Anderson University in a non-conference match Wednesday night at Smethers Field. Lander, 4-0-1 overall, ran its shutout streak to consecutive four matches, all four against Conference Carolinas teams. "They were just a little better than us," said Anderson head coach Rob Miller. "I thought we possessed the ball well and moved it around. We played hard. It's disappointing, but we're getting better." Lander's first goal came at the 3:03 mark when Aaron Brittain got a foot on a loose ball in the box and Nick Cooke collected it and finished it. The score remained 1-0 until the 46:28 mark when Craig Hughes chipped the ball into the box to Brittain, who put into the upper left corner of the net. Lander's final goal came at 53:32. Off a restart, Martyn Bell played a cross from the left wing that Hughes redirected with his head into the Anderson net. Lander goalkeeper Garrett Daum made six saves to earn his fourth straight shutout and improve his record to 4-0-1. Both teams had 13 total shots and six shots on goal. "Lander is a good team, but we had some chances," Miller said. "We created some dangerous situations." Anderson, 2-4 overall, will play host to Lees-McRae Saturday at 3 p.m. Anderson University Men's Soccer Statistics
