MORGANTON, N.C. – While improving its score over each of the final two rounds, the Anderson men's golf team wrapped up its fall schedule by finishing in 10th place Tuesday at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate.
The 72-hole event was hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne at the 6,718 yard, par-70 Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club.
Newberry led the event by 12 strokes over Coker following Monday's two rounds and finished a comfortable 27 strokes ahead of Belmont Abbey, which jumped from sixth to second. Host Lenoir-Rhyne finished third, while North Greenville and Coker slipped to fourth and fifth, respectively.
Barton, Milligan, Erskine, Emmanuel, AU, Catawba, Chowan and Felician rounded out the 13-team field.
North Greenville's Evan Gfeller survived a late charge to claim individual medalist honors by two shots over Newberry's Ben Thompson.
Sophomore Jake Miller fired identical 6-over-par-76s over the first two rounds and added a 3-over-par 73 on Tuesday to finish in a five-way tie for 33rd with a total 225. Senior Forrest Fowler carded a two-round 151 on Monday and a final-round 76 to share 38th place, alongside sophomore Brady Cox after both notched a three-round total 227.
Freshman Colt Martin posted a three-round 229 and finished in a share of 49th. While competing as an individual, sophomore Drake McAlister tied for 51st after carding a three-round 230. Freshman Cal Brock carded a two-day 233 and finished in a tie for 60th.
