Men’s Golf in Second Place after Day One of AU Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – With freshman Cal Brock and senior Forrest Fowler each carding 2-over-par 74's, the Anderson men's golf team is in second place, just one stroke off the pace set by Georgia Southwestern following opening-round action at the AU Invitational, Monday at the 6,961 yard, par-72  Cobb's Glen Country Club layout.

Georgia Southwestern posted a total 307 on the day, while the host Trojans carded a 308. Bob Jones University (317) is in third place heading into Tuesday's final round, with Emmanuel in fourth after a 319. Erskine (320) stands fifth, while Brevard (321) is one shot further back and Spartanburg Methodist (329) rounds out the seven-team field.

Georgia Southwestern's Elias Birkeland and Bob Jones' Drew Buffaloe share the top spot in the chase for individual medalist honors after carding identical 73s on the day. But a dozen golfers are within five shots of the leaders, including Brock and Fowler, who are tied for third after first-round 74's.

Junior Cole Jefferys, who is competing as an individual, posted a 5-over-par 77 and shares seventh place, while junior Grayson Bell (78) and freshman Colt Martin (78) are tied for 10th. Sophomore Jake Miller is one stroke further back and is tied for 15th, with junior Hunter Parks (81) in a four-way tie for 20th. 

Sophomore Brady Cox (83) is tied for 30th, with junior David Monroe tied for 36th following an 87. Sophomore Drake McAlister notched an opening-round 90 and is in 39th place.

Tuesday's final round is slated to get underway at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
