Men’s Golf Finishes Sixth at South Atlantic Conference Men’s Golf Championship

ANDERSON, S.C. – Paced by sophomore Jake Miller's runner-up finish, the Anderson University men's golf team finished sixth at the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday. The Trojans hosted the three-day, three-round event at the par-72, 7,002 Cobb's Glen Country Club.

No. 20 Carson-Newman claimed its fourth championship and defended its 2017 title, while claiming its third conference championship in five years and posted the first back-to-back title runs since Newberry accomplished the feat in 2008 and 2009. Eighth-ranked Newberry, which was in sixth place following Sunday's opening round, climbed into second on Monday and held onto second place by five shots over third-place Wingate.

Queens was two shots further back in fourth place, with Coker jumping into fifth place after posting the day's second-best round. The host Trojans turned in their best round of the three-day event and claimed sixth, while Lenoir-Rhyne finished in seventh place. No. 16 Lincoln Memorial, Mars Hill, Catawba and Tusculum rounded out the final 11-team standings.

Eagles' sophomore Tom Forster began the day four strokes off the pace, but notched five birdies during the round and finished the event one shot in front of Miller to become the first Carson-Newman golfer to earn tourney MVP honors since former C-N standout Tanner Davis in 2004. Queens' Henry Bryden finished third, while Mars Hill's Harry Butler took home fourth place.

Miller, who fired a career-best 67 in Sunday's opening round, led the Trojans for the seventh time this season. Freshman Cal Brock shared 25th place, with junior Grayson Bell taking home a share of 39th place. Freshman Colt Martin junior Hunter Parks claimed 41st and 49th place, respectively.
