Men’s Golf Stands in Sixth Place after One Round of Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Sophomore Jake Miller's 1-over-par 73 lifted the Anderson men's golf team to sixth place following Monday's opening-round action at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.

The 36-hole event is being co-hosted by Lincoln Memorial and Lenoir-Rhyne at the 6,924 yard, par-72 Ocean Ridge Plantation Lion's Paw layout.

The Railsplitters (289) lead the tournament by two shots over Limestone (B), which carded a team total 291. Coker is just one shot further back, with Emmanuel sharing fourth place with North Greenville after both teams posted 297s. The Trojans (298) are just one stroke out of fourth place and lead both Mount Olive (301) and Queens (301) by three shots. Walters State Community College is in ninth place after a 302, while Barton is one stroke further back in 10th place.

Columbus State (307), Lenoir-Rhyne (309), Wingate (311), Wingate (B) (314), Brevard (314), Southern Wesleyan (316), Mars Hill (320) and Chowan (337) round out the 18-team field.

Mount Olive's Nick Adams leads the chase for individual medalist honors after firing an opening-round 3-uner-par 69. LMU's Sam Broadhurst and North Greenville's Austin Duncan share second place after carding 2-under-par 70s on Monday, with 11 additional golfers hovering within three shots of Adams. 

Miller is in an eight-way tie for 15th after carding four birdies and five bogeys on Monday, while fellow sophomore Brady Cox parlayed a pair of birdies and four bogeys into a 2-over-par 74 and sits in a tie for 23rd. Freshman Cal Brock is in a five-way tie for 30th after a 3-over-par 75, with junior Grayson Bell posting a 4-over 76 and sharing 36th place. Senior Forrest Fowler notched a 9-over-par 81 and sits in a tie for 73rd, while sophomore Drake McAlister is tied for 84th after a first-round 83.

The final round is set for Tuesday.
