Men's Golf Team Finishes Third In Regional

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- The Anderson University men's golf team shot its best round of the tournament -- 299 -- to finish third in the Atlantic Regional Wednesday at The Point Golf Club. Host Belmont Abbey won the regional and earned the bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament in Houston, Tx., with a final round of 302 for a 54-hole total of 889. Barton was second at 904. Following Anderson (909) in the eight-team field were Mount Olive 917, Coker 918, Fayetteville State 930, Pfeiffer 938, and Virginia State 964. Daniel Castleberry of Barton shot a final round of 2-under 70 to win the individual title with a 54-hole total of 217. Connor Tomlinson of Belmont Abbey closed with a 77 to finish one shot back at 218. Chip Lynn of Fayetteville State and Iain Hall of Queens University of Charlotte finished in a tie for third at 221. Anderson was led in the final round by Will Ferguson, who bounced back from an 83 in the second round to fire a 1-under 71. Anderson's other second-round scores were Adam Sheriff 75, Kurt Owings 75, and Ryan Sprayberry 78. Sheriff finished in a tie for fifth at 222, and Owings finished seventh at 223.
